In Travelers season 1 episode 1, titled "Pilot," viewers are introduced to a group of five strangers who discover they are actually time travelers sent back from a post-apocalyptic future to prevent the catastrophe they know as "The Fall."
The episode begins with an introduction to each of the travelers - Marcy, a mentally disabled woman with a kind heart; Trevor, an athlete struggling with personal demons; Carly, a young mother trying to escape an abusive relationship; Philip, a heroin addict with a knack for statistics; and lastly, the leader of the group, known only as The Director.
As the travelers settle into their new 21st-century bodies, they begin to carry out their mission - to change the course of history by taking over the lives of people who are about to die. Their consciousnesses take over the bodies of those who are moments away from death, and they begin a new life, attempting to complete their assigned tasks while simultaneously blending in with those around them.
Throughout the episode, viewers witness the unexpected challenges each traveler faces as they adjust to their new identities. For example, Marcy struggles to remember basic information and concepts while Trevor grapples with the weight of his newfound responsibility. However, each is able to adapt and play their part in the team successfully, becoming comfortable in their roles.
Despite the excitement of being in a new time period and the perceived freedom of their time-traveling mission, viewers quickly learn that the travelers are not without enemies. A mysterious group known as "the faction" seem to be working against them, and as the episode progresses, viewers see glimpses of their activities throughout the present day.
As the travelers struggle to stay under the radar and complete their mission, the audience is left questioning the true purpose and meaning of their actions. With each member harboring secrets and personal demons, it becomes apparent that there is more at stake than just the mission given to them by The Director.
Pilot is a riveting introduction to the show's main premise and characters, drawing the audience in with its subtle hints at larger conspiracies, while still managing to maintain a tense and engaging plotline. With their identities and actions constantly monitored and the risk of being found out ever-present, viewers will be on the edge of their seats, eagerly waiting to see how each traveler fares in their new life.
