The episode of Touched By An Angel season 4 episode 4, titled "Nothing But Net," follows a basketball prodigy named Marcus who has a lot of pressure on his shoulders. His father was a great basketball player and Marcus is expected to follow in his footsteps, but he's struggling to find his passion for the sport.
As the episode begins, Marcus is in high school and is being scouted by several colleges. His father, who is also his coach, is pushing him hard to excel on the court, but Marcus just can't seem to find his groove. He confides in his girlfriend, Trina, that he's not sure if he even likes basketball anymore.
Meanwhile, Monica, Tess, and Andrew are tasked with helping Marcus find his true calling. They're approached by an angel named Sam, who tells them that Marcus has been given a great gift, but he's not using it to its full potential. The angels agree to help, but they have to do so without interfering with Marcus's free will.
Throughout the episode, the angels observe Marcus and his teammates struggling to win games. They notice that Marcus is holding back and not playing to his full potential. After a particularly rough game, Marcus gets into an argument with his father and storms off.
Monica intervenes and talks to Marcus, encouraging him to dig deep and figure out what he really wants. She tells him that he's been given a gift, but it's up to him to decide how he wants to use it. Marcus takes her words to heart and decides to focus on basketball from a different perspective. Instead of trying to please his father and live up to his expectations, he decides to play for the pure joy of the game.
As Marcus begins to change his approach to basketball, his whole team starts to improve. They start playing with more passion and energy, and before long they're winning games left and right. Marcus even begins to inspire other players on the court with his newfound enthusiasm.
In the end, Marcus's father sees the joy that basketball has brought his son once again. He realizes that his own expectations had been weighing Marcus down, and that all he really wants is for his son to be happy. Marcus's girlfriend Trina also supports him, encouraging him to follow his heart and do what makes him happy.
The episode ends with Marcus and his team heading to a big championship game. Though they're the underdogs, they play with heart and determination. In the end, they win the game, and Marcus is hoisted up on the shoulders of his teammates in triumph. It's clear that he's found his passion for basketball once again, but this time it's on his own terms.
