The Australian political drama series Total Control follows the story of Alex Irving, an indigenous woman who gets unexpectedly appointed to the Senate in the Australian Parliament.

Episode 1 marks the start of Alex's journey as we meet her in the opening scene looking bewildered and shocked when she finds out about her nomination to the Senate. Alex is a well-known activist for the rights of indigenous Australians, but she has never been involved in politics before. Her appointment is a surprise and the first sign of a plot to remove her people's rights to their land.

Alex's introduction to her new Senate colleagues is far from welcoming. She is met with skepticism from both her supporters and those who are against her. Alex's main struggle is to balance her principles and her loyalties to her culture with the reality of the political world. Her lack of experience in the political arena doesn't help her cause either.

As the episode progresses, we see Alex's determination to succeed in her new role despite the many obstacles in her path. Her main rival in the Senate is the unsympathetic Senator Rachel Anderson, who is not willing to accept Alex's appointment. Anderson is threatened by Alex's presence, and her attempts to get rid of Alex grow increasingly aggressive as the episode goes on. Their dynamic provides a central conflict in the show as Alex and Anderson are ideologically opposed, with Anderson representing the worst of Australia's political establishment.

The series also explores the underlying tensions between indigenous Australians and the rest of the country, and it makes clear the audience knows as little about the culture of indigenous Australians as do the characters in the show. The show also depicts corruption in Australia's political system, and it addresses the lack of representation of indigenous voices in Australian politics. The series has received critical acclaim for its authentic depiction of indigenous Australians' experiences, and how it stands to make a significant impact in the discussion of the struggles of indigenous people.

Total Control is an exciting new political drama. It is a timely, realistic and well-crafted show that deals with important issues related to race, politics and corruption. Episode 1 lays out the groundwork for an intriguing storyline, setting up a host of political manoeuvrings and conflicts that are sure to play out over the course of the season. We see a ferocious fighting spirit in Alex, and we're left knowing that she's far from giving up.

Total Control delivers an opening chapter that is both entertaining and perilous, and it sets up a fascinating political landscape. It balances its striking political commentary with a compelling human story that reflects a more profound and more significant issue that indigenous people face daily. Alex Irving is not just fighting for a position in the Senate, but also for the preservation of her culture and, by extension, the identity of Australia as a nation. Total Control's first episode is a thrilling ride, and it sets up the show for a gripping season ahead.
