Torpederna is a Swedish comedy drama series produced by the eminent Swedish production company FLX that premiered on Viaplay on May 21, 2014. The show spans across two seasons and twenty-six episodes in total, each episode running for about 30 minutes. Torpederna was created and directed by Henrik Schyffert and Fredrik Lindström, who also served as the lead writers of the series.
The show follows Adam (Torkel Petersson), an aging gangster who has retired from his criminal life and now runs a funeral home, which he inherited from his father. But after his father's death, Adam discovers that the funeral home is in debt and on the brink of bankruptcy. In a desperate attempt to save his business, he teams up with some of his former criminal associates - the hapless PÃ¥l (Leo Razzak) and the former hitman Svensson (Claes Malmberg) - to pull off a series of heists to pay off the debts.
But things do not go as planned, and soon their crew is joined by a motley bunch of characters, including the struggling artist and Adam's ex-girlfriend Nadja (Liv Mjönes), the dorky hacker Olsson (Shanti Roney), and the muscle-bound Jorma (Jens Hultén). Together, they embark on a series of hilarious and daring heists, each one more absurd than the last.
The show has a unique blend of humor and drama that keeps the viewers engaged throughout. While the heists are the central plot of the show, the character interactions and their personal struggles are the heart of the series. Each character is given their fair share of screen time, and the witty dialogues between them are a delight to watch.
One of the most significant strengths of the show is its finely crafted characters. The characters are quirky, flawed and yet endearing. Adam is a gruff and tough exterior belies his sentimental nature, while PÃ¥l is the clumsy and awkward member of the gang who tries to be tough. Svensson is a former hitman who has now taken to gardening, while Nadja is a struggling artist who wants to be taken seriously. Jorma, on the other hand, is the muscular enforcer who has a soft spot for animals.
The cinematography of the show is also a standout feature. Shot in the picturesque landscape of Stockholm, the show captures the essence of the city beautifully. The show also cleverly subverts some of the tropes associated with heist films. For instance, the show often downplays the action and violence that is typically associated with these films and instead focuses on the aftermath of the heists.
Torpederna is a show that defies simple categorization. It is a unique blend of genre-bending comedy and drama, with quirky and endearing characters. The show has a strong and devoted fan base who appreciate its humor, quirkiness and distinctive characters. The series is engaging, entertaining and an enjoyable watch from start to finish.
Overall, Torpederna is an excellent show for anyone looking for something different from the usual crime dramas or Jason Statham-esque heist films. Its intriguing and engaging storyline, coupled with witty and hilarious dialogue makes it a delightful watch, and the stunning cinematography and unique characterization makes it stand out from other series in its genre.
