Detective Robin Griffin's investigation continues in episode 4 of Top of the Lake season 1. As she delves deeper into the case, new leads begin to emerge, but with each new piece of information, more questions arise.
The episode begins with Robin seeking out a man who she believes may have information about Tui's disappearance. This man, known as "Silver," is a local drug dealer who is rumored to have a connection to the powerful Matt Mitcham. Robin's conversation with Silver is tense, but she manages to get some important information from him.
Meanwhile, Tui's father, Matt, is becoming increasingly desperate to find his daughter. He even enlists the help of his estranged wife, Robin's mother, in his search. However, this search is complicated by the fact that Matt's relationship with his wife is strained, and she has her own secrets to keep.
As the investigation continues, Robin begins to suspect that there is more going on in the small town of Laketop than meets the eye. She discovers a group of women living in a commune on the outskirts of town, and their lifestyle is very different from what she is used to. Despite the hostility that she faces from some of the women, Robin persists in trying to learn more about them and their connection to the case.
In addition to the investigation, the personal lives of some of the characters are also explored in this episode. Robin's relationship with Johnno continues to develop, but it is put to the test when she discovers that he has been less than truthful about his past. At the same time, Matt's son, Mark, is struggling with his own issues, including his relationship with his mother and his father's criminal activities.
As the episode draws to a close, Robin is forced to confront some uncomfortable truths about her own past and her family. These revelations shed new light on the case, and Robin realizes that she may be closer to finding out what happened to Tui than she thought.
Overall, episode 4 of Top of the Lake season 1 is a gripping installment that is full of twists and turns. The investigation is complex and nuanced, and the characters' personal struggles add an extra layer of depth to the story. Fans of crime dramas will find plenty to enjoy in this exciting episode.
