Top Design was a reality television show that aired on Bravo from January 2007 to April 2008. The show was created as a spin-off of Bravo's popular design competition show, Project Runway. Top Design was hosted by fashion and design icon, Todd Oldham. The show focused on a group of aspiring interior designers who compete in a series of challenges to be named the top designer.
Each episode of Top Design featured a new design challenge, which pushed the designers to showcase their unique creativity and vision. The challenges ranged from renovating a rundown apartment to designing a showroom for a luxury car brand. In each challenge, the designers had to work within a specific budget and time frame, and they were judged on their ability to complete the project on time and within budget.
The judging panel of Top Design included renowned designers Jonathan Adler and Kelly Wearstler, as well as a guest judge who was an expert in the week's theme. The judges evaluated the designs based on creativity, innovation, functionality, and overall aesthetics. The designers who failed to meet the criteria were eliminated from the competition.
One of the unique aspects of Top Design was the use of a weekly "Inspiration Room." Each week, the designers were given a room that they had to use as inspiration for their challenge. They could use anything from the room as inspiration, such as the color scheme or the furniture, to create their design. This aspect of the show forced the designers to think outside the box and find inspiration in unexpected places.
Throughout the competition, the designers lived together in a shared apartment, which created a highly competitive and stressful atmosphere. The show also highlighted the personal struggles of the designers, as they faced criticism from the judges, dealt with homesickness and exhaustion, and worked to balance their personal lives with their intense design workload.
The winner of Top Design received a $100,000 cash prize from LendingTree, as well as various other prizes, including a spread in Elle Decor magazine and a 2008 Honda Accord. Overall, Top Design was a highly entertaining show that showcased the creativity and design abilities of a group of talented artists. Its format, which combined drama, competition, and design, was innovative and fresh, making it a fan favorite during its two-season run.
Top Design is a series that ran for 2 seasons (20 episodes) between January 31, 2007 and on Bravo
