The episode begins with Tom setting up his fishing gear on the lake, hoping to lure Jerry into his trap. As he casts his line into the water, Jerry watches from a safe distance and quickly realizes Tom's plan. Jerry decides to use his own fishing skills to try and catch some fish, but his attempts are quickly foiled by Tom.
As the two rivals continue their game of cat and mouse, more and more obstacles arise. Tom attempts to capture Jerry using a fishing net, but ends up getting caught in the process. Jerry takes advantage of Tom's misfortune and proceeds to taunt him by using the fishing rod to pull him around the lake.
Towards the end of the episode, Tom comes up with a new plan to catch Jerry. He disguises himself as a female cat and calls out to Jerry from the shore. Jerry, thinking he has found a potential love interest, jumps into the water and swims towards Tom. However, as soon as Jerry reaches the shore, Tom reveals his true identity and attempts to capture him once again.
As the episode comes to a close, Tom is left with only a wet suit and a missed opportunity to catch Jerry. The mouse, on the other hand, leaves with a victorious grin on his face.
