Episode 27 of season 2 of Tinga Tinga Tales is titled "Why Ostrich Sticks Her Head in the Ground." The episode explores the story behind a common myth about ostriches and their behavior. The narrator of the show sets the scene by introducing viewers to the savannah, the home of many animals including ostriches. The story begins when a wise old owl flies overhead and sees ostrich with her head buried in the ground. Curious as to why she does this, she asks ostrich what she's doing.
Ostrich explains that she's hiding from a lion, an animal that preys on ostriches. She believes that by burying her head, she becomes invisible and therefore safe from the lion's attack. Intrigued, the owl tells ostrich that she's wrong about why she does this. She then proceeds to tell ostrich the real reason why she buries her head in the ground.
The story then takes viewers back in time to an era when animals spoke and took part in epic battles. In this era, ostrich is portrayed as a very fast runner, one of the fastest in the savannah. She is proud of her speed and often boasts to the other animals about it. One day, she challenges cheetah, who is known for being the fastest animal in the savannah, to a race. Cheetah accepts the challenge and on the day of the race, many animals gather to cheer them on.
The race begins and ostrich is doing well, she is keeping up with cheetah. However, she becomes overconfident and starts to taunt cheetah, telling him that she is going to win. This causes her to lose her focus and cheetah takes the lead. Ostrich tries to catch up, but she begins to tire and eventually falls behind. Cheetah wins the race and ostrich is left humiliated.
The other animals mock her and she becomes the laughing stock of the savannah. Feeling embarrassed and ashamed, ostrich disappears for a while. When she returns, she has changed. She is no longer proud of her speed and instead, she hides her head in the ground whenever she feels embarrassed or ashamed. She believes that by doing this, she can hide from the other animals and avoid feeling humiliated again.
The owl finishes the story, telling ostrich that she shouldn't be ashamed of who she is and that everyone makes mistakes. She then encourages ostrich to come out of her hiding spot and face the other animals once again. Ostrich takes the owl's advice and emerges from the ground. She is met with cheers and encouragement from the other animals, who are happy to see her back.
The episode ends with ostrich feeling empowered and ready to face any challenge that comes her way.
