In the season 2 premiere episode of Tin Star, entitled "Prairie Gothic," we find our protagonist, Jim Worth, recovering from the traumatic events of the previous season. He has settled into a new life as a snow plower, attempting to distance himself from his past as sheriff of the small town of Little Big Bear.
However, his peaceful existence is interrupted when a disturbing crime occurs in the town. A family is brutally murdered, leaving Jim and the rest of the community shaken. As the new sheriff, Denise Minahik, investigates the crime, she discovers that there may be more to the case than meets the eye.
Meanwhile, Jim's daughter, Anna, is struggling with her own demons. After being kidnapped and held hostage in the previous season, Anna has developed a drug addiction and is attempting to numb her pain with illegal substances. However, her addiction leads her down a dangerous path, as she begins to get involved with the wrong people.
As the investigation into the murders continues, Jim is forced to confront his past and the demons that have haunted him for years. He is also forced to work with his estranged wife, Angela, who has returned to Little Big Bear with their son, Peter, in tow. Angela is attempting to patch up their relationship and make amends for past mistakes, but Jim is hesitant to let her back into his life.
The episode introduces a number of new characters, including the wealthy and powerful North Stream Oil company, who have their sights set on the town of Little Big Bear. It becomes clear that there are many competing interests at play in this small town, and the line between good and evil is not always clear.
"Prairie Gothic" sets the stage for what promises to be an intense and thrilling second season of Tin Star.
