Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! is a satirical television series that combines sketch comedy, music videos, and mock commercials to create a bizarre and often surreal viewing experience. Season 2 episode 8, titled "Innernette," follows in the footsteps of previous episodes by taking a deep dive into the weird and wonderful world of the internet.
The episode opens with a sketch titled "Website Promotion," in which Tim and Eric play two hapless promoters tasked with hyping up a series of ridiculous and nonsensical websites. From a site that sells custom-made papier-mâché hats to a page dedicated to videos of people singing Bruce Springsteen songs in the shower, the websites they highlight are as absurd as they are hilarious.
Next up is "The Innernette," a parody of those classic '90s infomercials that offered viewers a glimpse into the exciting new world of the internet. Tim and Eric play hosts of the show, dressed in garish neon clothing and sporting oversized eyeglasses. Throughout the sketch, they extol the various virtues of the internet, promising the audience that they'll be able to "surf the web," "download music," and "shop online" with ease.
But as with everything else on this show, things quickly go off the rails. The hosts begin to spout gibberish instead of actual information, and the graphics on the screen become increasingly distorted and nonsensical. By the end of the sketch, it's clear that Tim and Eric have no clue what they're talking about when it comes to the internet – but that's the point.
From there, the episode moves on to a series of bizarre and often unsettling sketches, including "Magician," in which Tim plays a creepy magician who performs a series of "tricks" that involve stabbing himself with a pencil and crawling around on the ground like a worm. "Peeper's" offers a glimpse into the world of a depraved recluse who spends his days spying on his neighbors through a pair of binoculars, while "Costume Party" features a group of adults who are clearly not ready to let go of Halloween.
Other sketches in the episode include "Zillions," a fake commercial for a board game that promises to "make your wildest dreams come true," and "Abstinence," which features Tim and Eric as two self-appointed "abstinence experts" who teach viewers how to avoid sexual temptation in the most bizarre ways possible.
As with all episodes of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, "Innernette" is a wild, surreal, and often confusing ride. But for those who appreciate the show's singular brand of humor, it's a must-watch. Whether you're a fan of offbeat sketch comedy, ironic nostalgia, or just plain weirdness, this episode (and the series as a whole) is sure to tickle your funny bone in all the right ways.
