In the first episode of season three of Thunderbirds Are Go, entitled Earthbreaker, International Rescue is called upon to deal with yet another disaster. This time, it takes place in the form of an earthquake that hits the city of San Francisco.
The episode opens with the earthquakes happening in San Francisco, causing destruction and chaos in the city. The earthquake also causes a lot of damage to the Golden Gate Bridge. The tremors are so strong that people are trapped under the rubble, and it’s up to International Rescue, equipped with their incredible vehicles, to save the day. Thunderbirds 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are all in action.
The episode follows the team as they spring into action to save anyone who needs their help. The Tracys are quickly on the case, with Kayo piloting Thunderbird 3, Virgil in Thunderbird 2, Scott in Thunderbird 1, and Gordon in Thunderbird 4. The rescue team's expertise and courage are once again put to the test as they race against time to save civilians trapped in the destruction.
As the team arrives in San Francisco, they begin to assess the situation. They get a bird's eye view of the destruction from Thunderbird 1, and begin to see that it's not just the bridge and its occupants who are in trouble. Pockets of the city have also collapsed, trapping more people underneath the rubble.
Thunderbird 2, piloted by Virgil, begins to deploy its various Pod Vehicles to help with the rescue. The Mole is sent in to dig through the rubble, while the elevating platform of the Skyship One is deployed to airlift people to safety.
Meanwhile, Kayo and Gordon are working together on Thunderbird 3. They are tasked with locating people trapped under the bridge and using the cutting tools, such as the plasma cutter, to free them. Scott is helping on the ground, directing the operations from the command post.
The team soon realizes that the earthquake is not a natural one but is triggered by an underground creature. The team identifies the creature as a megalon, a species long thought extinct. It is massive, causing destruction as it traverses through the ground.
As the megalon continues to cause mass destruction, The Tracys need to find a way to stop it before it reaches the city's heart, causing more chaos and destruction.
