In Thunderbirds Are Go season 1 episode 2, Space Race, the International Rescue team faces a new challenge in space. A billionaire named Richard Carson has created the Carrerasaurus spacecraft, capable of faster-than-light travel. But when the Carrerasaurus suffers a catastrophic failure during a test flight, it sends shockwaves throughout the world.
International Rescue is called in to help Carson's crew, who are stranded in space. Meanwhile, the GDF (Global Defence Force) has also sent their own rescue craft, the Zero-X, to the scene. The two teams find themselves in a race against time to save the crew before they run out of oxygen and perish.
During the joint rescue mission, the Zero-X's captain, Captain Taylor, and International Rescue's chief pilot, Scott Tracy, engage in a bit of friendly rivalry and banter. But things take a serious turn when the rescue efforts are jeopardized by a passing asteroid field. The two teams put their differences aside as they work together to navigate the dangerous maze of asteroids and reach the stranded crew in time.
Back on Earth, the rest of the Tracy brothers are dealing with another crisis. A mysterious gas leak in a residential area has caused several houses to explode, and the rescue team is struggling to find and rescue any survivors. Virgil Tracy, the team's heavy-lift specialist, takes charge of the situation and uses his Thunderbird 2 craft to lift an entire house out of the debris, saving a family trapped inside.
As the Space Race rescue mission reaches its climax, tensions run high as the two teams race to reach the stranded crew. But just as they are about to reach the Carrerasaurus, a series of explosions rocks the spacecraft, leaving it teetering on the brink of destruction. With time running out, and the safety of the crew hanging in the balance, International Rescue and the GDF must think fast to come up with a solution to save the day.
