Thundarr The Barbarian is an animated television series that follows a post-apocalyptic world in which Earth has been shattered and the surface has become a dangerous place to live. Season 2, episode 2 is titled "Fortress of Fear" and follows the trio of Thundarr, Princess Ariel, and Ookla the Mok as they encounter a mysterious fortress in the middle of the wasteland.
The episode begins with our heroes trekking across the barren wasteland, searching for any signs of civilization. Thundarr is cautious, knowing that the land is full of danger and enemy forces. Princess Ariel is hopeful and optimistic, believing that there must be some pockets of life left on the planet. And Ookla the Mok is quiet as usual, but ever-vigilant, watching their backs for any threats.
As they crest a dune, they spot a massive fortress in the distance. Princess Ariel is immediately drawn to it, seeing it as a potential refuge and source of information. Thundarr is more skeptical, knowing that the fortress could be heavily guarded and defended. Nonetheless, the trio makes their way towards the fortress, hoping for the best.
As they approach the fortress, they notice that it is made entirely of metal and appears to be fully operational. They cannot see any signs of life within the fortress, and it is eerily quiet. Thundarr is more suspicious than ever, sensing that something is not right. Princess Ariel, however, wants to investigate the fortress further, perhaps finding some sort of clue as to what happened to the world before.
The trio approaches the gates of the fortress and sees that they are heavily guarded by robotic soldiers. Thundarr readies his Sunsword, ready for battle. Princess Ariel tries diplomacy, speaking to the robots in hopes of gaining entry. The robots, however, are unresponsive, their programming preventing them from allowing anyone to enter without proper authorization.
Without a way to enter the fortress, the trio begins to backtrack, thinking that they have hit a dead end. Suddenly, the ground beneath them gives way, and they plummet into a trapdoor. They find themselves in a dark tunnel, with no idea how deep it goes or what dangers lie ahead.
The trio proceeds cautiously, with Thundarr using his Sunsword to light the way. Princess Ariel uses her magic to detect any traps or obstacles that may lie ahead. Ookla, as usual, is the muscle of the group, ready to take on anything that may emerge from the shadows.
As they move deeper into the tunnel, they begin to hear strange noises. It sounds like something or someone is following them, watching their every move. They quicken their pace, hoping to find a way out soon.
Eventually, they come to a large room with a huge metallic device in the center. The device appears to be some sort of control panel, with dozens of buttons and levers. Suddenly, they hear a voice booming out over speakers in the room. It is the voice of the fortress's creator, an enigmatic figure who has been long gone. The creator tells our heroes that the device is a doomsday weapon, with the power to destroy the entire planet. The voice then challenges our heroes to a game of wits, saying that if they can solve a riddle, they will be allowed to leave unharmed. If they fail, the fortress's defenses will activate, and they will be trapped forever.
The trio works together, using their unique skills to solve the riddle and escape from the fortress. Along the way, they encounter several challenges and obstacles, including robotic spiders, booby-trapped rooms, and deadly puzzles. It is only through teamwork and determination that they manage to survive and make their way out of the fortress.
