Bobby Flay is back with his popular show, Throwdown with Bobby Flay, in season 3 episode 10. This time, he takes on a classic American dessert – ice cream sundaes.
Ice cream sundaes have been a popular dessert in America since the late 19th century. They typically consist of a scoop or two of ice cream, drizzled with syrup, topped with whipped cream, and finished with a cherry on top. But in this episode, Bobby Flay is not satisfied with just any ordinary ice cream sundae. He sets out to find the best sundae makers in the country and challenge them to a throwdown.
The first challenger is a small ice cream parlor in San Francisco called Humphry Slocombe. They are known for their unique and sometimes bizarre flavors like Secret Breakfast (bourbon and cereal milk) and Jesus Juice (red wine and Coke). Bobby is impressed by their creativity and the quality of their ice cream. He decides to take on their signature flavor, Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee Sundae, which consists of Vietnamese coffee ice cream, caramel sauce, and candied pecans. Bobby is confident in his ability to make a better version of the sundae, but the competition from Humphry Slocombe proves to be tough.
The second challenger is Serendipity 3, an iconic New York City restaurant that has been serving frozen treats since 1954. They are famous for their Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, which Bobby describes as a cross between a milkshake and a slushie. However, Bobby is not looking to take on their classic menu item. Instead, he decides to challenge them to make a Rocky Road Sundae. This classic ice cream sundae consists of chocolate ice cream, marshmallows, and nuts, but Bobby wants them to come up with a unique twist. Serendipity 3's version of the sundae incorporates their famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate and is finished with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Bobby is impressed by their creativity, but he is determined to come up with a better version of the sundae.
The third and final challenger is Zeno's Boardwalk Sweet Shop in Wildwood, New Jersey. This family-owned ice cream parlor has been serving up frozen treats since 1945 and is known for their traditional boardwalk-style sundaes. Bobby decides to take on their classic Sundae Royale, which consists of vanilla ice cream, marshmallow sauce, hot fudge, and nuts. Bobby is confident in his ability to make a better version of the sundae, but the competition from Zeno's proves to be tough.
Throughout the episode, Bobby is seen experimenting with different flavors and techniques to come up with unique and delicious sundaes. He is seen making his own caramel sauce, roasting nuts, and even using liquid nitrogen to freeze his ice cream. The competition is fierce, with each challenger bringing their own unique twist to the classic sundae.
At the end of the episode, Bobby presents his version of the ice cream sundae to each challenger, who then judges his version against their own. Who will come out on top? Watch the episode to find out.
