Jack meets Cindy's beautiful friend, Kay, but he immediately puts his foot in his mouth when asking her out. Thoroughly impressed with her intelligence and sophistication, Jack feels out of his league and seeks advice from his roommates on how to impress her. Chrissy suggests that he take a page out of the classic tale of Cyrano de Bergerac and woo Kay with heartfelt words written by Jack himself, while having the handsome and smooth Mr. Furley deliver them. Meanwhile, Larry's eyes are set on Kay's friend Jeanie, but he just can't seem to catch a break with her.
As Jack struggles to find the right words to express his feelings, the comedic chaos begins. Mr. Furley, being far from eloquent, butchers Jack's romantically charged words, leaving Kay completely unimpressed. On the other hand, Larry's attempts at courting Jeannie only seem to drive her further away. Chrissy suggests that Larry use the same Cyrano tactic, with Jack writing the letter and Mr. Furley delivering it - but it only leads to more hilarity.
As the confusion continues, Jack realizes that he should just be honest with Kay and speak from the heart. When all is revealed, Kay is touched by Jack's genuine feelings and they agree to a date. Meanwhile, Larry finally catches a break with Jeannie when he drops the Cyrano act and shows her his true self.
In the end, the roommates learn valuable lessons about honesty and being true to oneself. With Cyrano de Tripper, Three's Company delivers another fun-filled and heartwarming episode.
