In the third episode of season five of the Three Stooges Collection, we are treated to a classic beer-themed adventure with the titular trio. The episode, titled "Beer Barrel Polecats," follows Larry, Moe, and Curly as they inadvertently become bootleggers in a small town.
The episode begins with the Stooges working at a local brewery, where they are tasked with delivering a large barrel of beer to a nearby tavern. However, on their way there, they accidentally switch the barrel with one that was full of bootleg whiskey. When they finally deliver the barrel to the tavern, chaos ensues as the patrons realize they've been given the wrong drink. Fearing for their livelihoods, the Stooges flee the scene.
As they try to figure out what to do with the whiskey barrel, they are confronted by a group of rival bootleggers who want the barrel for themselves. A wild chase ensues, with the Stooges using various slapstick tactics to avoid their pursuers. Eventually, they are able to hide the barrel in an abandoned house and think they are in the clear.
However, things take a turn for the worse when they receive a visit from the local sheriff, who has heard reports of illegal bootlegging in the area. Despite their protests of innocence, he conducts a search of the house and finds the whiskey barrel. The Stooges are arrested and taken to jail.
In typical Three Stooges fashion, they manage to make a mess of their time in jail, accidentally causing a prison riot and getting into a fight with the other inmates. Eventually, they are able to use their wits (and their fists) to escape and clear their names. They are even able to turn the tables on the rival bootleggers, earning a handsome reward for turning them in to the authorities.
Overall, "Beer Barrel Polecats" is a hilarious and action-packed episode that showcases the best of the Three Stooges' zany humor. Fans of the trio and classic slapstick comedy will not want to miss it.
