In season 5, episode 17 of the Three Stooges Collection, titled "Monkey Businessmen", the three stooges find themselves in a precarious situation when they take a job at a zoo. They are put in charge of an intelligent chimpanzee named Ethel, who has been trained to do various tricks for the amusement of visitors. However, things quickly spiral out of control when they accidentally cause Ethel to escape from her cage and wreak havoc throughout the zoo.
The episode begins with the stooges arriving at the zoo, eager to begin their new job as zookeepers. They meet their boss, Mr. Henderson, who introduces them to Ethel and instructs them on how to take care of her. The stooges are initially excited about working with such a smart and talented ape, but their enthusiasm quickly wanes when they realize how difficult it is to control her.
Ethel is no ordinary chimpanzee - she can do all sorts of incredible tricks, including riding a bicycle, juggling balls, and even playing the piano. However, she is also mischievous and easily distracted, and the stooges struggle to keep her under control. They try their best to follow Mr. Henderson's instructions, but they keep making mistakes and causing Ethel to act out.
As the day goes on, the stooges find themselves getting into more and more trouble. They accidentally break Ethel's bicycle, spill her water, and even feed her the wrong food. Each time, Ethel becomes increasingly agitated, and the stooges become more and more frazzled. They try to come up with new ways to entertain her, but everything they do seems to end in disaster.
Finally, things come to a head when Ethel manages to escape from her cage. She runs wild throughout the zoo, causing chaos and confusion everywhere she goes. The stooges are forced to chase after her, trying desperately to catch her before she causes any more damage. They race through the animal exhibits, ducking and dodging as Ethel swings from tree to tree, knocking over displays and scaring the other animals.
In the end, the stooges manage to catch Ethel and bring her back to her cage, exhausted and covered in scratches and bruises. Mr. Henderson is furious with them for their incompetence, and threatens to fire them on the spot. However, as he watches the stooges struggle to get Ethel back into her cage, he can't help but feel a soft spot for them. In the end, he decides to give them another chance, but warns them that if they mess up again, they're out of a job for good.
