Thomas & Friends Season 17 Episode 16 - Luke's New Friend:
In this episode of Thomas and Friends, a new engine arrives on the Island of Sodor. His name is Stafford and he is an electric engine. Stafford is different from all the other engines on Sodor because he does not run on coal or steam. Instead, he runs on batteries, which means he is quieter than the other engines and does not pollute the air.
Stafford is assigned to work at the Blue Mountain Quarry. Luke, a narrow gauge engine who works there, is excited to have a new friend. However, the other engines are not so welcoming. They make fun of Stafford and call him names like "sparky." Stafford is upset and does not understand why they are being mean to him.
Luke tries to make Stafford feel better by showing him around the quarry and introducing him to all the other narrow gauge engines who work there. However, Stafford still feels left out and wishes he had friends who understood him.
One day, while Stafford is working at the quarry, he meets a group of animals who live in the woods nearby. There is a badger, a hedgehog, a squirrel, and a rabbit. They are all fascinated by Stafford and his unique abilities. Stafford is happy to have found friends who appreciate him for who he is.
Luke is surprised when he sees Stafford hanging out with the animals, but he is happy that Stafford has found friends. He realizes that sometimes it takes a while to make friends, but that doesn't mean you should give up.
At the end of the episode, Stafford is invited to join the other engines for a game of football. They apologize for being mean to him before and Stafford forgives them. He is happy to have found friends who accept him for who he is and finally feels like he belongs on the Island of Sodor.
