  • January 1, 2009

Thomas & Friends season 1 episode 116 is titled "Hero of the Rails." In this episode, Thomas is approached by a new engine named Hiro, who is lost and in need of help. Hiro tells Thomas about his days working on the railways in his home country of Japan and how he became a hero by saving an entire town from a landslide. He also reveals that he has a special part that makes him a special engine.

Thomas is fascinated by Hiro's story and wants to help him find a new home on the Island of Sodor. However, Sir Topham Hatt is skeptical about Hiro's capabilities and is hesitant to let him work on the railway. Despite this, Thomas and his friends come up with a plan to prove Hiro's worth and earn him a place on the Sodor railway.

To make Hiro feel more at home, the other engines decorate him with lanterns and bamboo leaves, just like the engines in Japan. But when they take him to work, he struggles to keep up with the other engines due to his rare parts breaking down. Everyone is disappointed, but Thomas encourages Hiro to keep trying.

Later, Thomas finds an old abandoned shed and decides to fix it up for Hiro to live in. While fixing the shed, they discover an old map that leads to the lost town of Hiro's heroism in Japan. Hiro is excited to see the town again and share his story with others.

However, when they arrive at the town, they find that a new railway line is being built and is in danger of causing a landslide like the one that Hiro had saved the town from before. Hiro must once again step up and use his special part to prevent the landslide and save the new railway.

Thanks to his heroism, Hiro earns his place on the Sodor railway and becomes a beloved member of the team. Thomas, his friends, and Sir Topham Hatt all learn an important lesson about the value of hard work, determination, and how differences should be celebrated and leveraged for the good of everyone.
