Thomas & Friends Classic season 2 episode 9 is comprised of two separate stories: "The Deputation" and "Thomas Comes To Breakfast."
In "The Deputation," the engines are concerned about the fate of their friend, the beloved steam engine, Percy. The Fat Controller has received a letter threatening to take Percy away and scrap him, which has left the engines feeling desperate and unsure of what to do. They decide to form a deputation and confront the Fat Controller to plead for Percy's safety.
Meanwhile, the Fat Controller is not happy with the recent behavior of the engines, specifically a series of accidents that have occurred due to their carelessness. The engines become worried that they will not make a good case for Percy's safety, as the Fat Controller seems to be in a foul mood.
Eventually, the engines gather the courage to speak to the Fat Controller. They express their love for Percy and plead with the Fat Controller to spare him. The Fat Controller is touched by the engines' loyalty and agrees to let Percy stay, as long as the engines promise to be more careful and responsible going forward.
In "Thomas Comes To Breakfast," Thomas is feeling very proud of himself for receiving a new coat of paint. He begins his day with a cheerful attitude, but things quickly take a turn for the worse. As Thomas is chugging along to his next stop, he crashes into the kitchen at the stationmaster's house. The kitchen is in shambles, and the stationmaster is not pleased.
Thomas is feeling guilty and sad about what has happened, but still determined to continue his day. However, things only continue to worsen. At a later stop, Thomas accidentally uncouples from his coaches, which roll away uncontrollably. The passengers are left stranded and angry, and Thomas feels terrible once again.
Despite these setbacks, Thomas tries to continue his day by hoping to make up for his previous mistakes. However, his errors continue, including getting stuck on a bridge and getting his new paint job dirty. Thomas begins to feel like a failure, and contemplates quitting his job.
Fortunately, the Fat Controller notices Thomas' gloomy demeanor and offers words of encouragement. Thomas is reminded of his deep love for his job, and decides to keep on going despite his mistakes. The episode ends with Thomas feeling better about himself and his job, while still acknowledging that he has room for improvement.
Overall, "The Deputation" and "Thomas Comes To Breakfast" are both heartwarming episodes that showcase the importance of loyalty and perseverance. The engines' loyalty towards Percy and Thomas' perseverance through a tough day show the value of sticking by your friends and continuing to try even when things don't go as planned.
