In the sixth episode of the first season of "This Is Not Happening" titled "Wonder Years," host Ari Shaffir welcomes three comedians to share their stories of adolescence and coming of age.
The first comedian, Al Jackson, initially relates his tale of growing up poor in a rough neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio. However, his story takes an unexpected turn as he humorously recounts how he and his friends inadvertently committed a felony while trying to help an elderly neighbor.
Next up is Esther Povitsky, who shares her experiences as an awkward, unpopular teenager in Skokie, Illinois. She recounts how she was desperate for the attention and approval of her peers, leading her to make some questionable decisions and even steal from a friend's house party.
Finally, Steve Simeone tells his story of growing up in Philadelphia during the 1980s and bonding with his father over their shared love of Bruce Springsteen. He humorously recounts how they went to multiple Springsteen concerts together, including one particularly memorable show where they had to navigate a rain-soaked stadium.
Throughout the episode, Shaffir offers his own commentary and comedic insights, tying the stories together and adding his own humorous anecdotes. As with every episode of "This Is Not Happening," "Wonder Years" offers a unique, entertaining glimpse into the lives and experiences of its comedians.
