Andrew Zimmern, the renowned culinary explorer, is back with another exciting episode of "The Zimmern List" season 2. In this episode, he is in the charming and vibrant city of Louisville, Kentucky, ready to explore its diverse food scene.
Louisville is famously known for its bourbon and horse racing, but it also has a rich culinary heritage that Andrew is eager to discover. He starts his adventure by visiting one of the city's most famous landmarks, the Churchill Downs racetrack. Here, he meets up with chef Edward Lee, who takes him on a tour of the track's iconic grandstands and shows him the best spots to enjoy a mint julep. Andrew also gets to try some southern comfort food, including a decadent bacon-wrapped hot dog, and an inventive spin on the Kentucky classic hot brown sandwich.
Next, Andrew heads to Butchertown to visit one of the city's most beloved BBQ joints, Feast BBQ. Here, he meets with owner and pitmaster Ryan Rogers, who takes him through the art of smoking meat and shares his secrets to making the perfect brisket. Andrew gets to sample some of Ryan's famous brisket, ribs, and smoked chicken, and even tries a unique dish made with smoked bologna.
After indulging in all that BBQ goodness, Andrew heads to High Street to explore more of Louisville's food scene. He stops at Royal's Hot Chicken, known for its fiery Nashville-style hot chicken and crispy chicken tenders. Andrew meets up with owner and chef Ryan Rogers, who shows him how to make the perfect hot chicken sandwich and shares the story behind the restaurant's success.
Continuing on his food tour, Andrew visits Muth's Candies, an iconic candy store that has been in Louisville since 1921. Here, he gets a behind-the-scenes tour of the candy-making process and learns about the history and tradition of the store. Andrew gets to sample some of Muth's most popular candies, including bourbon balls, modjeskas, and chocolate-covered marshmallows.
Andrew's last stop in Louisville is at El Taco Luchador, a popular taqueria known for its inventive and delicious tacos. Here, he meets with owner and chef Olé Restaurant Group, who shows him how to make some of El Taco Luchador's signature dishes, including the Chino Latino taco made with Chinese-style pulled pork. Andrew gets to try some of the most popular tacos on the menu, including the Surf & Turf taco made with shrimp and steak, and the Lengua taco made with beef tongue.
