In this episode of The Yorkshire Vet, viewers are taken on a journey through the stunning and rolling hills of Yorkshire, England as they follow Julian Norton and Peter Wright, the two main vets of the Skeldale Veterinary Centre in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

At the start of Episode 4, Peter Wright, who has been the face of the Series since 1979, is leaving for vacation, making Julian Norton the sole vet in charge for the next 10 days. This means that Julian will take on more work than he usually does, and will have to attend to the animals of his clients whilst ensuring that the running of the center remains smooth.

The episode is divided into different storylines, each featuring animals with unique health issues that require the expertise of Julian, who is a skilled veterinarian. The first storyline takes viewers to the home of Christine, who has an alpaca that is suffering from a painful foot abscess. Julian has to carefully clip the infected area and prescribe antibiotics to the animal, which will eventually help it heal. The second storyline features a clunky and overly-sized dog that suffers from hormonal ups and downs, and is in desperate need of a relaxing wash and clip. Julian and his assistant have to exercise considerable caution and agility to keep the dog calm and happy throughout the process.

Continuing on later in the episode, the third storyline has Julian visiting a farm where he is assigned to handle the health of a cow that is not responding to medications. The animal's temperature is way above normal, indicating that there is an underlying health issue that is making her immune system weaker. To treat the cow, Julian administers a powerful antibiotic and, through careful observation over a few weeks, finally sees some noticeable improvements.

In the next storyline, Julian is summoned to the home of Hazel, who has been running a small sanctuary for rescue animals for over 30 years. She has an orange tabby cat that is unwell and therefore needs Julian's expertise. Throughout the examination process, Julian has to balance the cat's discomfort with his diagnosis, and eventually prescribes medications to help the animal.

At the end of the episode, Julian is called to a school where a young boy has brought in his pet snake, which is having difficulty shedding its skin. Julian is quick to spot the problem and provides key advice to the youngster on how to assist his snake in shedding more comfortably.

Overall, the episode showcases the rich and diverse life of Yorkshire's animal population and the tireless work of the skilled and passionate veterinarians working to keep them healthy. Viewers are reminded of the importance of animal welfare and the need to do everything possible to care for those that occupy our planet. Ultimately, The Yorkshire Vet showcases the unique and sometimes charming bond that exists between humans and animals, and the episode is sure to leave viewers feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
