Ep 3. Auditions #3
- September 28, 2011
After an exhilarating first two episodes, the much-awaited third installment of the X Factor takes off where the previous one left. Titled as "Auditions #3," this episode showcases auditions from Manchester, England, where judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh, and Dannii Minogue try their best to spot the next big star.
The episode starts with a montage of various contestants who were rejected in the previous two episodes. We see them leaving the stage with heavy hearts, but with the hope of coming back stronger. The judges' room is shown, where we see Simon Cowell, who seems to be in an amiable mood. Dannii walks in, and they discuss their plan for the day ahead. Louis and Cheryl come in soon after, and they commence with the auditions.
The first performer of the day is a young man who identifies himself as John Doe. He has a unique style, and the judges are impressed. He sings a ballad that he wrote himself, and the lyrics seem to have struck a chord with the judges. Cheryl was teary-eyed by the end of the performance, and the rest of the judges praise him for making them feel an emotional connection. Simon tells him that he will be taking a "leap of faith" by sending him to the next round, and the rest of the judges agree. John leaves the stage overwhelmed with emotions, and thanks the judges profusely.
Next, we see a young Native American girl who goes by the name of "Little Sparrow." She walks on stage with her guitar, and the judges are curious to learn more about her background. She tells them that she was brought up on a reservation, and the music was the only way she could express herself. She starts playing the guitar and sings a beautiful rendition of "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley. The judges are moved by her performance, and Simon predicts that she "will be the next big thing coming out of America." The judges give her a standing ovation, and she walks off stage with a massive smile on her face.
As the show progresses, we meet different contestants, all with unique stories and backgrounds. There's a young man from Syria who sings a traditional Arabic song, a single mother of two who wants to prove to her children that it's never too late to chase your dreams, and a group of three siblings who call themselves "The Jacksons" and were named after the famous Jackson 5.
The most eccentric performance of the day comes from a young man who goes by the name of "Crazy Tom." He walks on stage, and the judges can't help but laugh at his sheer quirkiness. He tells them that he's "not your ordinary contestant," and they should expect the unexpected. He starts singing an opera song, and the judges are stunned. The audience goes wild at the end of his performance, and Simon tells him that he's "never seen anything like this before." Crazy Tom is elated to get approval from the judges, and he walks off stage with a massive grin on his face.
The episode ends with a montage of the contestants who made it to the next round, and those who didn't. While some leave the stage in tears, they all express gratitude for the opportunity to audition for the show. We see clips of the judges deliberating on who should move forward to the next round, and it's clear that they have a difficult decision on their hands.
Overall, Auditions #3 of The X Factor season 1 is a rollercoaster of emotions. We see contestants from different parts of the world, all with unique stories and backgrounds. It's an excellent depiction of what makes the show so unique – the ability to bring people from different walks of life together to share their passion for music. The judges continue to be pleasantly surprised by the caliber of talent they see, and we can't wait to see who makes it to the next round.
