Tabby is the third episode of the first season of The Worst Witch, a British-German fantasy series based on a series of children's books by Jill Murphy. The show follows the adventures of Mildred Hubble, a clumsy and well-meaning young witch who attends Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches.
In Tabby, Mildred takes on the responsibility of looking after her friend Tabby's (Harriet Slater) talking cat, Tiggy, when Tabby goes home for the weekend. Tiggy is a troublemaker with a mind of her own, and she quickly causes chaos in the school, causing Mildred to worry that she will be blamed for any misdeeds.
As Mildred struggles to keep Tiggy out of trouble, she also participates in her first flying lesson, which doesn't go quite as planned. Despite her best efforts, Mildred can't seem to get the hang of flying, and she struggles to keep up with her classmates.
Meanwhile, Miss Cackle (Clare Higgins) is experiencing some unexpected changes of her own. When her twin sister, Agatha (also played by Higgins), pays a visit to the school, she causes a stir by announcing that she plans to take over as headmistress. Though she's been away for years, Agatha claims to be more qualified than Miss Cackle, and she seems to have the support of many of the other witches.
As tensions rise between the two sisters, Mildred and her friends begin to suspect that something fishy is going on. They launch an investigation into Agatha's background, hoping to uncover some dirt that can be used against her. But as they dig deeper, they find that Agatha may not be the villain they thought she was.
Tabby is a fun and lighthearted episode that showcases the whimsical world of the Worst Witch. The show has a charmingly nostalgic feel, with its old-fashioned costumes and sets, and it offers a gentle, humorous take on the world of magic and witchcraft. Like many of the episodes in the series, Tabby emphasizes the importance of friendship, loyalty, and believing in oneself, making it a great show for children and families to enjoy together.
