The World From Above Season 9 Episode 1 takes us on a breathtaking journey through the English countryside, from the historic fortifications of Berkley Castle to the ruins of the Roman city of Wroxeter. As we soar over the rolling hills and sprawling estates, we are treated to stunning vistas of some of England's most beloved landmarks and hidden gems.
Our journey begins at Berkley Castle, a magnificent fortress dating back to the 12th century. The castle has a rich and storied history, having played host to kings, queens, and even a prisoner whose ghost is said to haunt the grounds to this day. From above, we can see the castle's impressive moat and drawbridge, as well as the sprawling gardens and parkland that surround it.
Next, we head north to the ancient city of Worcester, home to the magnificent Worcester Cathedral. The cathedral is one of England's most beautiful examples of Gothic architecture, with its soaring spires and intricate stone carvings. From above, we can see the cathedral's beautiful stained glass windows and the intricate details of its facade.
As we continue our journey to the north, we pass over the gorgeous Cotswolds region, with its picturesque villages, rolling hills, and thatched-roof cottages. We see quintessentially English scenes of sheep grazing in green pastures, stone walls separating fields, and narrow country roads winding through the countryside.
We then arrive at the historic city of Bath, famous for its Roman baths, Georgian architecture, and stunning Royal Crescent. From above, we get a bird's eye view of the crescent's row of 30 terraced houses, designed by John Wood the Younger in the 18th century. We can also see the city's beautiful parks and gardens, including the Royal Victoria Park, Bath's largest park.
Heading further north, we come across the Iron Bridge in Shropshire, a famous World Heritage Site and one of the most important bridges in the world. Completed in 1779, the bridge was the first to be made entirely of cast iron and played a crucial role in the Industrial Revolution. From above, we get a sense of the magnitude of the bridge and the surrounding landscape, with the River Severn winding its way beneath it.
Our final stop is the Roman city of Wroxeter, just outside of Shrewsbury. The city was once a bustling metropolis with a population of around 5,000, but now lies in ruins. From above, we can see the outlines of the city's streets and buildings, as well as the remnants of the city's impressive bathhouse, which was once the largest in Roman Britain.
Throughout our journey, we are treated to stunning aerial footage of some of England's most beautiful countryside and historic landmarks. From the dramatic fortifications of Berkley Castle to the majestic beauty of Worcester Cathedral, the Cotswolds, and the Iron Bridge, this episode of The World From Above is a must-see for anyone who loves England's rich history and natural beauty.
