The World From Above season 7 episode 7 takes us on a journey over the stunning landscapes of Germany, from the Thuringian Forest to the city of Magdeburg. The episode begins in the heart of the Thuringian Forest, where we see the magnificent greenery and towering trees from above. The forest covers an enormous area of over 16,000 square kilometers and is home to a variety of wildlife including deer, wild boar, and the elusive lynx. We also get a glimpse of the famous Rennsteig hiking trail, a 170 km path that runs through the forest and is a popular destination for hikers.
Moving on, we fly over the city of Erfurt, the capital of the state of Thuringia. The city is over 1,200 years old and has seen many changes over the years, from being a trading center in the Middle Ages to a hub for industry and technology today. We see the impressive cathedral of St. Mary and St. Severus and the towering Krämerbrücke, a bridge lined with half-timbered buildings that have been used for shops and markets since the 12th century.
As we head north, we pass over the town of Bad Langensalza, known for its many parks and gardens. We get a glimpse of the world-famous Rosengarten, a beautiful rose garden with over 8,000 rose bushes of 120 varieties. We also see the Friederikenschlösschen, a small palace built in the Rococo style in the 18th century.
Next, we fly over the city of Halle, located on the river Saale. Halle has a rich history, having been founded in the 9th century and serving as an important center for trade and commerce over the centuries. We see the impressive Market Church of St. Mary and the famous Francke Foundations, a complex of buildings that includes a school, orphanage, library, and more.
Our journey ends in the city of Magdeburg, the capital of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. We see the magnificent Magdeburg Cathedral, which dates back to the 11th century and features impressive Gothic architecture. We also get a glimpse of the Green Citadel, a striking pink building designed by artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser in the 1990s.
