Ep 20. Das gef

"Das gef" is the twentieth episode of the first season of the anime series "The Vision of Escaflowne." In this episode, Hitomi is struggling to come to terms with her growing feelings for Van and the tragic fact that, as a seer, she knows he is destined to die. Meanwhile, Allen and Dilandau engage in a fierce battle, with Allen ultimately emerging victorious. However, the victory is short-lived as Dilandau miraculously escapes, and it is soon revealed that he has been taken under the wing of an enigmatic new character named Folken, who has his own plans for the fate of Gaea.

As the episode opens, Hitomi is still reeling from the devastating prophecy she received in the previous episode, in which she saw Van lying dead on the battlefield. She desperately wishes she could talk to Van about her feelings, but is hesitant to do so out of fear of potentially altering his fate. In the midst of her turmoil, Hitomi receives a mysterious vision of an eagle soaring through the sky, which she interprets as a sign of hope.

Meanwhile, Allen and Dilandau engage in a vicious fight, with both warriors displaying incredible skill and determination. However, Allen ultimately emerges victorious, cutting off one of Dilandau's arms and causing him to retreat. The battle is witnessed by Folken, a mysterious figure who appears to be orchestrating events from behind the scenes. Despite Dilandau's defeat, Folken takes him under his wing and they disappear into the night.

Back in the city of Palas, Van is dealing with his own set of problems. He is plagued by doubts about his own abilities and fears that he may not be strong enough to protect the people he loves. Hitomi tries to reassure him, but he remains stubbornly aloof, unwilling to let anyone see his vulnerability.

As the episode comes to a close, tensions continue to mount as Folken reveals his true intentions. It becomes clear that he has a connection to Van and Hitomi's family, and that his ultimate goal is to unleash a powerful spell that will reshape the fate of Gaea forever. With the stakes higher than ever, the fate of the world hangs in the balance, and one thing is certain - nothing will ever be the same again.
