As the first episode of The Vision of Escaflowne begins, we are introduced to a teenage girl named Hitomi Kanzaki. Hitomi is a talented runner and a member of her school's track team, but she also has another passion: tarot card readings. She often uses her skills to read the fortunes of her classmates and teammates.

On this particular day, Hitomi is feeling down and decides to do a reading for herself. She draws the tarot card "The Tower", which represents sudden and catastrophic change. Just as she finishes her reading, she is distracted by a strange glowing object falling from the sky. The object crashes into the school's track field, and Hitomi rushes over to investigate.

As she approaches the crash site, Hitomi sees a young man fighting off several robotic creatures. The creatures are fierce and powerful, but the man seems to be holding his own. Hitomi watches in amazement as the man dodges and weaves through the creatures' attacks.

Suddenly, the man is struck by one of the creatures and falls to the ground. Hitomi rushes over to help him, but is too late - the creatures are closing in. In a last-ditch effort, the man activates a strange device on his wrist and a giant mecha suddenly appears out of nowhere.

With the mecha's help, the man is able to defeat the creatures. Hitomi watches in awe as he pilots the giant robot with incredible skill and precision. After the battle, the man introduces himself as Van Fanel, the prince of a kingdom called Fanelia.

Van explains that the device he used to summon the mecha is called a "guymelef", and that it is powered by a rare and powerful mineral called "energu", which is also what the creatures were after. Van reveals that he was on a mission to retrieve energu from a nearby site when he was attacked.

Suddenly, a rift appears in the sky, and a giant dragon-like creature emerges. Van realizes that the creature is after the energu as well, and he and Hitomi engage in battle with the dragon and its riders.

As the battle rages on, Hitomi has a vision of a beautiful woman trapped in the flames of the dragon's attack. She realizes that the woman is actually Van's older sister, Princess Folken. Hitomi shares her vision with Van, and they both agree that they must rescue her.

In a dramatic scene, Van and Hitomi board the guymelef and charge into battle with the dragon. They fight valiantly, but the dragon is too powerful. Just as all seems lost, a mysterious figure appears in the sky, calling out to Van.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger, leaving the viewer wondering who this new character is and how they will affect the battle between Van, Hitomi, and the dragon. Overall, the first episode of The Vision of Escaflowne does an excellent job of introducing the world and characters, as well as setting the stage for a thrilling and action-packed adventure.
