The View is a long-running American talk show that has aired on ABC since 1997. Created by Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie, the show features a panel of women discussing the day's hot topics, current events, and popular culture. The diverse group of co-hosts, referred to as "The View Table," offers different perspectives, often leading to spirited debates. While controversy and conflict drive much of the discussion, the segment "Hot Topics" also aims to be informative and thought-provoking.

The original co-hosts in 1997 included Barbara Walters, broadcast journalist Meredith Vieira, Star Jones who was an attorney, Joy Behar a comedian, and Debbie Matenopoulos a television personality. While the cast has changed over the years, the show format has remained fairly consistent. Each episode starts with "Hot Topics" where the women discuss major news stories, followed by guest interviews and live performances. In its 25+ year run, The View has featured celebrities, politicians, authors, musicians, athletes, doctors, and subject matter experts touching on everything from women's issues and parenting to politics and pop culture.

After departing in 2014, Barbara Walters remains co-executive producer with Candi Carter. Whoopi Goldberg is the longest serving co-host, having joined in 2007. Other notable co-hosts over the years include Lisa Ling, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Rosie O’Donnell, Nicolle Wallace, Meredith Vieira, and Abby Huntsman. While opinions are often divided among the group, the hosts aim to be respectful while engaging in thoughtful debate.

Some memorable moments on The View include on-camera feuds between co-hosts like the explosive argument between O’Donnell and Hasselbeck over the war in Iraq.Controversial figures from Sean Spicer to Donald Trump have appeared as guests, causing heated exchanges. Heartfelt confessions and emotional segments range from O’Donnell’s disclosure about her sexuality to Behar’s grief over her father’s passing. After security breaches where audience members stormed the stage, tighter safety measures were implemented.

The show has received numerous Daytime Emmy awards and honors, recognizing its impact on daytime television. It provides a platform for women’s voices and tackles substantive issues other shows often avoid. While it doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, it also offers humor, camaraderie, and entertainment. Over 20 seasons, The View has become a part of the cultural lexicon, referenced across primetime sitcoms and late night comedy. From ‘coffee talk’ to ‘the Hot Topics table,’ it has permeated pop culture.

With new developments unfolding daily, The View remains a compelling forum for contextualizing current events. The insightful commentary and passion of the co-hosts, combined with engaging interviews, have established The View as a Television mainstay. While the cast and conversations continue to evolve, the mission remains the same - providing an outlet for women to engage in meaningful, relevant and entertaining discussions about the world we live in. The View offers unfiltered opinions, spirited debate, and impactful dialogue, all from the perspective of women at ‘the table.’

The View is a series that ran for 28 seasons (6520 episodes) between August 11, 1997 and on ABC
