Stefan and Damon are still on the hunt for Julian in this episode of The Vampire Diaries. As they try to track him down, they come across a town where people appear to be stuck in time. The town, called Mystic Falls, has been trapped in the year 1903 and everyone is acting as if they are still living in that time period. The Salvatore brothers quickly realize that this is the work of a powerful vampire named Lily Salvatore who has created a time loop to protect her family.
Lily Salvatore is the mother of Stefan and Damon and she has been missing for a long time. When the brothers disappeared, Lily formed a new family of her own and became a powerful vampire in her own right. She has now returned to Mystic Falls to find her sons and protect them from Julian.
As the brothers start to explore the town, they come across some familiar faces from their past including Sarah Salvatore, a distant relative who is now a vampire. They also run into Matt Donovan, the human sheriff of Mystic Falls who is stuck in the time loop along with everyone else.
As Stefan and Damon try to figure out how to break the time loop, they learn more about Lily's new family. She has a group of powerful vampires who are fiercely loyal to her and will stop at nothing to protect her. One of these vampires, Beau, has a special power that allows him to influence people's emotions. Stefan and Damon realize that they need to find a way to use Beau's power to break the time loop.
Meanwhile, Caroline is still struggling with her new vampire status. She is having a difficult time coming to terms with the fact that she will be a vampire forever and that her relationship with Stefan will never be the same. She seeks comfort in her friendship with Bonnie, who is now a powerful witch. Bonnie tries to help Caroline come to terms with her new life and encourages her to embrace her vampiric nature.
In this episode, we also learn more about Lily and her complicated history with Julian. It is revealed that Julian was once Lily's lover but that their relationship was fraught with conflict. Lily eventually left Julian and started a new family. However, Julian has spent the intervening years seeking revenge and he is now hell-bent on destroying Lily and her new family.
As the episode progresses, we see Stefan and Damon getting closer to breaking the time loop. They realize that they need to use Bonnie's magic to amplify Beau's power so that he can influence everyone in Mystic Falls at once. However, in order to do this, they need to find a way to get Bonnie's magic to the town. They come up with a plan to use Matt Donovan as a messenger and send him out of Mystic Falls to get Bonnie's help.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger as Matt Donovan sets out on his mission, vulnerable and alone in the outside world. Will he be able to find Bonnie and bring her magic back to Mystic Falls? Will Stefan and Damon be able to break the time loop and find Lily Salvatore? The Age Of Innocence episode of The Vampire Diaries is full of twists and turns and will leave you on the edge of your seat.
