On Day One of Twenty-Two Thousand, Give Or Take, we pick up with the aftermath of the season six finale. Elena is gone, Damon is nowhere to be found, and the town of Mystic Falls is in shambles. The Heretics have taken over, creating chaos and destruction at every turn.
Bonnie is doing her best to keep the peace, but it's not an easy task. She's lost her best friend and her boyfriend, and now she's responsible for picking up the pieces. Things start to get even more complicated when she learns that Damon is being held captive by Lily Salvatore, the vampire who turned him all those years ago.
Meanwhile, Caroline is pregnant with Alaric's babies, but things aren't going smoothly. Her vampire body is rejecting the babies, leaving her weak and vulnerable. When the Heretics discover her condition, they make a threat that could put her and the babies in grave danger.
Stefan is also dealing with his own problems. He's left Mystic Falls and is trying to start a new life, but he's haunted by memories of his past. When he gets a call from Caroline, he's forced to confront his demons and return to his hometown.
As the episode progresses, we learn more about the Heretics. They're a group of powerful witches turned vampires, led by Lily Salvatore. They're not interested in taking over Mystic Falls, but they are interested in finding a way to break the spell that binds them to Lily and gives her control over their lives.
The tension builds throughout the episode, as the Heretics and our beloved characters come into conflict. Lily is cold and calculating, and she's not above using her children as pawns in her game. Damon is being held captive and tortured, and it's not clear if he'll be able to escape.
In the end, the episode leaves us with more questions than answers. Will Damon be reunited with his friends? Can Caroline's babies be saved? What will the Heretics do next? And most importantly, who will come out on top in the battle for Mystic Falls?
Overall, Day One of Twenty-Two Thousand, Give Or Take sets the stage for what promises to be an intense and action-packed season of The Vampire Diaries.
