- 44 min
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji continue their journey to investigate the strange occurrences happening in the cultivation world. They make a stop at the Wen Clan's headquarters where they are greeted by Wen Qing, the younger sister of Wen Ning, the zombie that attacked them in the previous episode. Despite her initial hostility towards them, she eventually agrees to help them in their investigation and even provides them with a map of the area.
They set off to investigate the burial mounds where the demonic energy seems to be emanating from. Along the way, they encounter a group of Wen Clan soldiers who are searching for them. Wei Wuxian manages to distract them by playing his flute, allowing him and Lan Wangji to continue their investigation undetected. They eventually reach the burial mounds and find it infested with fierce corpses, animated corpses that are controlled by demonic energy.
Wei Wuxian puts his own safety on the line to gather information about the fierce corpses. He eventually discovers that they are being controlled by a fierce corpse that is more powerful than the others and is strong enough to resist the control of the demonic energy. He realizes that the corpse is a person rather than an animal, and sets out to find the identity of the person controlling the corpse.
Meanwhile, Lan Wangji discovers a hidden cave within the burial mounds where he finds a mysterious flute. Upon playing the flute, he summons a creature made entirely out of water. The creature seems to recognize him and even follows him back to the Wen Clan's headquarters where it is revealed that the creature was created by Lan Wangji's mother who was a powerful cultivator in her own right.
The episode ends with Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji discovering that the person controlling the fierce corpse is Wen Ning, the younger brother of Wen Qing. Wen Ning explains that he was resurrected by the demonic energy and has been forced to do the bidding of the person controlling the demonic energy, who we later find out to be Wen Ruohan, the leader of the Wen Clan.
Overall, this episode sets up a lot of the major plot points for the rest of the season while also providing some much-needed character development for both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji. The use of music and sound throughout the episode is especially noteworthy and adds to the overall atmosphere and tension of the episode.
