Wei Wuxian is still in the Burial Mounds, feeling dejected and alone. He remembers his past mistakes and the people he has lost. Suddenly, he hears a sound and turns around to find Lan Wangji standing behind him. Wei Wuxian is surprised to see him and asks why he is there. Lan Wangji tells him that he has come to take him back to Gusu. Wei Wuxian is hesitant to leave the Burial Mounds, but Lan Wangji insists that it is not safe for him to stay there.
They set off on their journey back to Gusu, but they are attacked by fierce corpses along the way. Wei Wuxian uses his demonic powers to fight them off, but Lan Wangji is getting weakened by the attacks. Wei Wuxian realizes that they need to find a way to destroy the fierce corpses, so they make their way to a nearby village in search of help.
In the village, they meet a group of cultivators who are also fighting against the fierce corpses. One of the cultivators, Wen Ning, recognizes Wei Wuxian and is surprised to see him alive. Wen Ning tells them that he has been working with the Wen sect to find a way to stop the fierce corpses, but they have not been successful. Wei Wuxian suggests that they work together to find a solution, and they agree.
They spend the night in the village and Wei Wuxian has a dream about his past. He remembers the time when he first met Lan Wangji and how they became friends. Wei Wuxian realizes that he has always been alone, but now he has people who care about him.
The next day, they set off to find the source of the fierce corpses. They discover that the Wen sect is using them as weapons against their enemies. Wei Wuxian is disgusted by this and confronts Wen Chao, one of the leaders of the sect. Wen Chao tells him that he will never understand their struggle, but Wei Wuxian disagrees. He tells Wen Chao that he knows what it is like to fight for something you believe in, but using the fierce corpses is not the answer.
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji fight against the Wen sect and finally destroy the source of the fierce corpses. They return to Gusu with Wen Ning, who has decided to leave the Wen sect and join them. Wei Wuxian is finally starting to feel like he has a purpose again and is grateful for the new friends he has made.
Back in Gusu, they are met with surprise and suspicion from the other cultivators. They learn that the Wen sect has been declared as enemies of the other sects and anyone associated with them is also considered an enemy. Wei Wuxian is heartbroken to realize that he is now an enemy of the very people he used to call friends.
The episode ends with Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji sitting on a rooftop, looking out at the city. Wei Wuxian reflects on the events that have led him to this point and wonders what the future holds for him and his new friends.
