In episode 8 of season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter, titled "Not On the Concrete," tensions rise between two of the contestants - Nate Diaz and Gray Maynard - as they prepare for their upcoming fight. Both fighters have been vocal about their dislike for each other, and their conflict has been simmering for weeks.
As the episode opens, the fighters are shown going about their usual training routines. But soon, things take a turn for the worse when Diaz and Maynard get into a heated argument while sparring. The other fighters in the house try to intervene and calm things down, but it only seems to make matters worse.
The coaches, BJ Penn and Jens Pulver, also get involved in the drama. Penn tries to talk sense into Diaz, telling him to focus on his training and not let Maynard's taunts get to him. Meanwhile, Pulver takes Maynard aside and tells him to keep his cool and not let his emotions get the best of him.
Despite the tense atmosphere, the other fighters continue to train and prepare for their fights. The episode features a number of training montages, as well as interviews with the contestants about their goals and strategies in the competition.
One particularly interesting moment comes when contestant Joe Lauzon has a heart-to-heart with coach Jens Pulver. Lauzon talks about his struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, and how he's been able to overcome them through his training. Pulver offers some words of encouragement and tells Lauzon to keep pushing himself.
As the episode draws to a close, it's time for the Diaz-Maynard fight. The two fighters enter the Octagon with a lot of animosity towards each other, and the tension is palpable. The fight is intense and closely contested, with both fighters landing some solid blows. In the end, however, only one can emerge victorious.
