Ep 2. Buster and Doug

  • March 7, 2018

Buster and Doug, the second episode of Season 11 of The Supervet, is an emotional journey of two pet owners who hope to get their furry friends healthy again. In this episode, we meet the adorable Buster, a French bulldog who has a heart condition and Doug, a rescue Greyhound who has been hit by a car.

At the start of the episode, we see Buster's owners arrive at the clinic with their beloved dog who has been having trouble breathing. Professor Noel Fitzpatrick diagnoses him with a collapsing trachea, a condition that occurs when the cartilage in the trachea weakens, causing it to collapse and obstruct the airway. The diagnosis is a difficult one as Buster is just four years old, and with the condition as serious as it is, can cause major complications. The risk is further increased due to Buster's weight and breed, which means his breathing problems could worsen. Professor Noel Fitzpatrick suggests surgery to repair a section of the trachea that needs strengthening- which can be a challenging procedure given the size and fragility of the trachea.

As the treatment options are discussed, we cut to Doug, a beautiful Greyhound who suffered multiple fractures after being hit by a car. His owner brought him to the clinic, hoping to get him back on his feet again. Doug had suffered two broken legs, one of which was severely shattered with over four cracks. Professor Noel Fitzpatrick and his team conducted multiple surgeries to piece Doug's bones back together, in a delicate and impressive operation.

As we continue to follow the story of Buster and Doug, we see their progress as they battle with their respective medical conditions. Buster undergoes surgery, and his owners anxiously wait for news of his recovery, while Doug undergoes intensive physiotherapy to help him walk again after a severe surgery.

The episode is heartwarming and leaves viewers emotional, with the ups and downs of caring for pet companions. Throughout the show, we follow Buster, who is much loved by his owners but is in a critical state, weighing heavily on their emotions. Meanwhile, Doug's owners closely follow his progress, sticking with him through the tough moments of his rehabilitation.

What makes The Supervet such an incredible show is its attention to detail and the care that is given to each pet. In this episode, we discover how the team at the clinic uphold their reputation of being the best in the business, with their use of advanced technology, surgical skills, and innovative treatment methods. As the story develops, we see both Buster and Doug's owners take inspiration from the clinic's work, pushing themselves in support of their pets.
