The Great Gladiator Gig is the sixth episode of the first season of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. The episode begins with Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool traveling to the land of gladiators to rescue their friend, Q*bert. But little do they know that their favorite plumber duo will also have to fight in the arena to save their friend.
The group arrives at the Coliseum and meets up with their old friend, Elvin Parsley, who is a gladiator trainer. Elvin introduces them to the Coliseum's owner, Emperor Ed, who tells them they must fight in an upcoming gladiator gig or they will never see Q*bert again.
Mario and Luigi are hesitant about fighting in the arena, but Princess Toadstool encourages them that they can save Q*bert if they win. The team is then introduced to their opponent, Sergeant Slaughter, and his army of Koopa Troopas.
In the meantime, Q*bert reveals that Emperor Ed is actually Koopa in disguise and that he is planning to use the entire gladiator gig as a distraction to kidnap Princess Toadstool. Q*bert advises Mario, Luigi, and Toadstool to try to win the gig and foils Koopa's plans to save both himself and his friends.
Mario and Luigi are nervous about their fight until they see their competition - it's only a giant Chain Chomp, so they don't think they'll have too much trouble. However, during the fight, the Chain Chomp proves to be a challenge and appears unbeatable.
Just when things seem bleak, Q*bert comes to the rescue in a gladiator costume, distracting the Chain Chomp enough for Mario and Luigi to defeat it. With the crowd cheering them on, the team goes on to fight Sergeant Slaughter and his Koopa Troops in a final battle to save Q*bert and win the gig.
In the end, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool are victorious, and Emperor Ed is revealed to be Koopa. The team defeats Koopa once again and rescues Q*bert. Mario and Luigi are relieved that they don't have to keep fighting in the gladiator arena, but Princess Toadstool encourages them to stay in shape in case they ever need to fight again. The episode concludes with Mario and Luigi looking exhausted but happy that they saved their friend and won the gig.
Overall, The Great Gladiator Gig is a thrilling episode that showcases the strength and bravery of the Super Mario Bros. and their friends. It highlights their willingness to help others and their determination to win, even in the face of tough challenges. The accompanying humor and action make this a fun episode for viewers of all ages.
