In season 1 episode 6 of The Sparticle Mystery titled "The Big Freeze," the group faces a new challenge in their quest to find their vanished parents after being transported to a parallel universe. They arrive in a world where almost everything is covered in snow, and the ice age has made it difficult to survive. The team needs to locate and set up a transmitter that will allow them to send a message to their parents, who could be located in any dimension.
The team initially settles into an abandoned house that has been recently vacated by the previous occupants who fled due to the harsh conditions. In the meantime, Kat, who is the group's resident science expert, tries to figure out what's causing the extreme cold weather that culminated in the ice age, which seems to have no scientific explanation. The phenomenon remains a mystery, with no apparent natural cause.
As the team proceeds on their mission, they quickly realize that they're not alone. They start hearing strange noises outside of their shelter, and while investigating, they discover a ragtag group of survivors who have banded together in a nearby warehouse. The two groups initially butt heads, but eventually, they form an uneasy alliance as they realize they share the same desire for survival.
One of the survivors, Frankie, takes a liking to Holly and tries to impress her by stealing a snowmobile they need to go on their mission. However, when his actions result in the rest of the group getting trapped in their shelter, Holly gets angry and demands he fix the problem. Frankie then steps up and helps save the group by locating a second snowmobile, which allows them to proceed with their mission.
The group later finds the transmitter in an old research facility that has been abandoned since the start of the ice age. In there, they also discover Professor Gideon, an eccentric scientist who has been locked up for all the years he's spent in isolation. They release him, and the professor tells them about a potential solution to the ice age: a machine he's been building that can control climate conditions. However, the machine is still in the prototype phase and needs testing.
After the group sets up the transmitter and sends their message, they decide to test the climate-control machine to see if it works. They discover that the Professor's invention is indeed working and that they were able to create greenhouses and grow vegetation in a few hours. However, they soon realized the experiment might pose dangerous threats to the universe's ecosystem if deployed too soon.
The team decides to leave the prototype and resume their search for their parents. The episode ends with the knowledge that their parents' whereabouts were in another parallel universe, and the group needs to continue their journey to find their loved ones.
