Ep 12. Doomsday, and Counting
- March 1, 1974
In the twelfth episode of season 1 of The Six Million Dollar Man, titled "Doomsday, and Counting," Colonel Steve Austin (played by Lee Majors) is tasked with a critical mission by the OSI (Office of Scientific Intelligence). His objective is to stop a nuclear warhead from detonating in the heart of London.
The episode begins with an intro of a new character, Dr. Franklin (played by Ted Cassidy), who is a computer programmer and scientist working for a shadowy organization. This organization has developed a supercomputer which they claim can predict the future with incredible accuracy. The computer has determined that a nuclear warhead is going to be detonated in London, and Dr. Franklin has been sent to prepare the area for the ensuing devastation.
Meanwhile, Steve is on a routine mission in the Mediterranean when he gets called back to base. He's informed of the situation in London, and the gravity of the situation quickly becomes clear to him. He is told that he has been chosen for the mission because of his extensive knowledge of explosives and his unique abilities as a bionic man.
Steve's mission is two-fold: first, he needs to find the warhead and disarm it. Second, he needs to locate Dr. Franklin and extract any information he has about the shadowy organization and their supercomputer.
Steve heads to London and begins his search for the warhead. He runs into several obstacles along the way, including an ambush by the shadowy organization's agents. Despite the challenges, Steve manages to track down the warhead and begin the process of disarming it.
At the same time, Steve is also on the hunt for Dr. Franklin. He eventually tracks him down to a secret laboratory beneath the streets of London. There, he confronts Dr. Franklin and demands answers.
Dr. Franklin is reluctant to talk at first, but Steve is able to convince him that he needs to help stop the warhead from detonating. Dr. Franklin eventually gives in and tells Steve about the supercomputer and how it predicted the future destruction of London.
With Dr. Franklin's help, Steve manages to disarm the warhead and neutralize the threat to London. However, the shadowy organization behind the supercomputer is still at large, and Steve knows that they pose a danger to the world.
The episode ends with Steve vowing to continue his fight against the shadowy organization and their schemes for global domination.
Overall, "Doomsday, and Counting" is a tense and exciting episode of The Six Million Dollar Man. It showcases Steve's resourcefulness and bravery as he faces off against a deadly threat to a major city. The addition of the shadowy organization and their supercomputer adds a layer of intrigue and suspense to the episode, which keeps viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end.
