As Bart sets out to achieve his goal, he ends up landing a job at a local publishing company, where he is the only one who applies for the position of "gopher." However, it isn't long before Bart finds himself bored with his new job and starts to sneak around the office, getting into mischief. One day, while goofing around in the studio, Bart accidentally gets his hands on one of the company's films, "Homer Goes to College," and plays it for the office. The staff is so impressed that they ask Bart to give them his review of the film, and he does so, using colorful language and wit that the staff finds hilarious.
Bart's hilarious and insightful review catches the attention of an executive from a television show called "Itchy and Scratchy," and she offers him a job as a gofer on the show. He enjoys his work, but he still wants to do more and become famous himself.
When Bart discovers that one of the writers from Itchy and Scratchy is stealing ideas from a movie he saw, he comes up with a plan to expose him. He convinces Lisa to help him and they turn their findings over to the producer, who hires Bart as a writer on the show. Bart's new career as a writer makes him an instant celebrity, and he receives all kinds of perks from his newfound fame, including free food, girls, and attention from bigwigs in the entertainment industry.
As Bart revels in his newfound fame, he forgets about his studies and starts to slip academically. It isn't until he has a run-in with a washed-up former child star that he realizes that he doesn't need fame to be happy.
