Marge is disappointed to discover that Lisa is not interested in following in her musical footsteps. In an effort to get Lisa to care about music, Marge takes her to a symphony composed entirely of elementary school children. When Lisa sees how passionate and talented the young musicians are, she is inspired to start her own band.
With a little help from her school counselor, Lisa assembles a diverse group of kids to be in her band. There's Taffy, the bubbly cheerleader who plays the triangle; Francine, the goal-oriented nerd who plays the saxophone; Zhenya, the brooding Russian exchange student who plays the accordion; and Alaska Nebraska, the temperamental farmer's daughter who plays the jug. Lisa herself plays the guitar and writes all of the band's original songs.
The band, which Lisa names The Snuffs, starts practicing diligently in the Simpson's garage. However, they soon discover that it's not easy being a kid band. They have to contend with parents who don't take them seriously, classmates who make fun of them, and constant scheduling conflicts. Despite the challenges, Lisa and her bandmates are determined to make it work.
One day, Homer's boss at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, Mr. Burns, invites The Snuffs to perform at his mansion for his birthday party. The band is thrilled at the opportunity, but Lisa is suspicious of Mr. Burns' motives. She does some investigative work and discovers that Mr. Burns plans to use The Snuffs as a distraction while he carries out a shady business deal.
Determined not to let Mr. Burns exploit them, The Snuffs hatch a plan to turn the tables on him. With Lisa's leadership, they use their music to expose Mr. Burns' illegal activities and get him arrested. The Snuffs become local heroes, and Lisa finally finds the passion for music that Marge always hoped she would have.
In the end, The Snuffs perform a triumphant concert in front of their classmates and parents. Marge is proud of Lisa and her bandmates, and Lisa realizes that music is about more than just being a hobby – it's a way to make a difference in the world.
