In the fifteenth season of The Simpsons, episode 13, "Smart and Smarter" sees Homer and Bart form a new and unexpected bond when they try to outsmart Lisa. Lisa has always been the brains of the family, with advanced intellect and knowledge beyond her age, but now Homer and Bart set out to prove that they too can be intelligent.
To start their challenge, Homer and Bart decide to enter a robotic battle competition which pits their robot against Lisa's. Lisa, with her advanced intelligence, builds an incredibly advanced robot that makes Homer and Bart's robot look like a toy. Homer and Bart, however, are not to be discouraged and continue to work on their robot. They look for ways to make it better, to make it smarter, and try to find a way to outsmart Lisa and her robot.
While Homer and Bart are hard at work, Lisa finds out about a young girl, Alexa, who is even smarter than she is. Intrigued and slightly jealous, Lisa sets out to meet Alexa and see what she’s capable of. Lisa soon realizes that she has met her match in Alexa, who is a child prodigy with an incredible ability to process information and solve complex problems.
As Homer and Bart work on their robot, they begin to discover new intelligence and problem-solving skills they didn't know they had. As they look for ways to improve their robot, they also find ways to improve themselves, each learning and growing in their own way. Meanwhile, Lisa starts to feel insecure about her intelligence when she meets Alexa. She begins to question her own abilities and wonders if there is a limit to her intelligence.
As the robotic battle competition draws closer, Homer and Bart's robot continues to improve rapidly. They work furiously to give it the final touches that they hope will give them an edge over Lisa's robot. Lisa, on the other hand, is having her own battle, one with her own insecurities and her fear of being outsmarted. She realizes that intelligence is not just about knowledge, but about being able to connect with others, emotionally.
When the day of the competition finally arrives, Homer and Bart are more than ready to take on Lisa. But when they finally face off, they realize that their robot may have been too smart for its own good. As the competition heats up and the fate of their robot hangs in the balance, the family comes together to support each other, proving that intelligence isn’t the only thing that matters.
In the end, Homer and Bart learn that there is more to being smart than just having knowledge and that being able to work together and connect with others is just as important. Lisa, too, realizes that even if someone is smarter than her, that doesn't mean that she's not smart as well. She learns that self-worth comes from more than just intelligence and that there is more than one way to be smart.
