Bart and Lisa are taken to a county fair, where they witness a group of cowboys competing on a horse race. Lisa becomes intrigued with the idea of owning a horse and dreams of becoming a champion riding on her own horse. Bart, on the other hand, is fascinated by a remote-controlled miniature car racing track and becomes so fixated with the activity that he neglects his sister.
In the meantime, Homer and Marge are alarmed by the uptick of aggressive turkey behavior in their neighborhood, as the birds become more brazen and violent, attacking people and causing chaos everywhere they go. After several incidents, Homer becomes determined to find a way to catch the turkeys and restore safety to the community.
Back at the fair, Lisa enrolls in a horse race and acquires a horse with a dubious track record. The horse, she learns, is a former racehorse that has been used and sold multiple times and has suffered from neglect and abuse. Despite the horse’s history, Lisa is determined to give it a chance and trains hard to prepare for the race. Bart, who has been practicing on the mini car track, becomes interested in the horse race as well and offers to ride Lisa’s horse.
As the race begins, it becomes apparent that the competition is far from a friendly one, as jockeys use dangerous tactics to eliminate their opponents. Meanwhile, Homer comes up with an elaborate plan to catch the turkeys, involving a giant wooden Trojan turkey and a catapult. The plan goes awry, however, and the situation becomes even more chaotic than before.
Towards the end of the race, things become even more dangerous as the horses jump over increasingly difficult obstacles. Lisa, Bart, and their respective horses race neck and neck, with Lisa’s horse taking the lead. However, as they approach the finish line, Bart’s horse suffers an injury and he is forced to ride Lisa’s horse, ultimately winning the race.
The episode ends with Homer’s plan to rid the neighborhood of turkeys finally succeeding, just as Marge and the kids arrive home from the fair. All is well until a group of turkeys, led by the most aggressive of the bunch, ambush Homer and his friends, leading to a frenzy of turkey attacks.
