The Secret Saturdays season 1 episode 16 titled "Something in the Water" follows the adventures of the Saturday family as they set out to investigate a series of strange events that have taken place in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. The episode begins with Zak Saturday, the youngest member of the family, waking up to find that the world has turned upside down. Literally. The family's headquarters, the Airship, is floating upside down in the ocean.
As Zak tries to wrap his head around the strange situation, his parents, Doc and Drew, explain that they have been investigating a peculiar phenomenon that has been plaguing the ocean. Apparently, strange, mutant sea creatures have been popping up all over the place, and the Saturdays have been tasked with finding out why. The latest development is the upside-down Airship, which Doc thinks was caused by seismic activity in the underwater caves that run beneath the area.
The family sets out to investigate, accompanied by their trusty ally and animal expert, Fiskerton. As they dive below the surface, they encounter a frightening array of strange mutated sea creatures. From giant octopuses with tentacles that stretch for miles, to electric eels with the power to knock out their enemies, the Saturdays are in for a wild ride.
Despite the dangers, the team presses on, determined to get to the bottom of the mystery. Along the way, they meet a group of fisherman who have been affected by the strange mutations in the ocean. They explain that their livelihoods are being destroyed by the mutant fish, and that they have been living in fear ever since they first appeared.
As the Saturdays continue to explore the underwater world, they discover that there is something even more sinister at play. A huge underwater city, home to an ancient race of mer-people, has been disturbed by the seismic activity. The Saturdays realize that the mutated sea creatures were a result of a desperate attempt by the mer-people to defend their home against what they perceived to be a threat. They had tinkered with the genetic makeup of their sea creatures in a last-ditch effort to protect their city.
The Saturdays attempt to broker peace between the mer-people and the fishermen. After some tense negotiations, they manage to convince both parties to stop fighting and come to an agreement. The mer-people will stop tampering with the genetic makeup of their sea creatures, and the fishermen will stop overfishing in the area.
The episode ends with the Saturdays flying off into the sunset, with Zak reflecting on the events of the day. He realizes that there is still so much that he doesn't know about the world, and that he has a lot to learn from his parents. As the Airship disappears over the horizon, the viewer is left with a sense of wonder and excitement. The world is a mysterious place, with secrets waiting to be uncovered around every corner.
