A beautiful girl and a Russian professor who plans to defect to the West combine to provide the Saint with action- racked adventure in Switzerland.Geneva is host to more international organisations than any city in the world, and when Simon Templar, the Saint (ROGER MOORE), arrives there, an International Disarmaments Conference is taking place. Russian representatives are present, among them Professor Karel Jorovitch (JOSEPH FURST), Finnish-born Russian professor of physics, who sees this as an opportunity to defect to the West. His plan is suspected by Jovanka Milanov (YOOTHA JOYCE), red-headed, tough-as-steel local head of the Russian Security Police. She warns him, in a not unkindly idly manner, not to try it: "It would sadden me deeply if I had to order your liquidation." His reason, she believes, is personal rather than idealogical. He wants to rejoin his daughter Irma, whom he hasn't seen for over twenty years and who lives in Sweden. She is believed to be in Geneva to meet her father.Inevitably, Jorovitch is followed, and the Saint sees him being arrested by two Security men, Pyotr (ANTHONY BOOTH) and Kirill (GODFREY QUIGLEY). Simon doesn't hesitate. A man is in trouble, and he acts, hurling himself at the Security men and enabling Jorovitch to get away. Back at his hotel, the Saint finds an extremely lovely girl waiting agitatedly to see him. She introduces herself as Irma Jorovitch (PENELOPE HORNER), and pleads for his help. She has arranged to meet her father and he has telephoned her from a call-box. But he has not keptthe appointment. She is convinced that he has been caught, after all. He had time, however, to tell her how the Saint had just helped him.L','here is Jorovitch now ? The Saint begins his inquiries by gate-crashing a reception given for the Conference delegates, and is agreeably surprised to find himself welcomed byJovanka Milanov. There is not need for pretence between then-,, an shc.- him bluntly tiia.
