In episode 9 of The Rose of Versailles, titled "The Sun Sets, The Sun Rises," the chaos in France continues to escalate as the people become more and more dissatisfied with their living conditions. The episode begins with Oscar and Marie Antoinette discussing the state of affairs, with Marie Antoinette expressing her desire to help the poor. Oscar reminds her that the people are not happy with the extravagance of the royal court and urges her to be careful in her efforts to aid them.

Meanwhile, Andre is struggling to come to terms with his feelings for Oscar. He is torn between his duty as a soldier and his love for her, and realizes that his feelings may never be reciprocated. He turns to Rosalie for comfort, but she is still reeling from her rejection by Oscar and is unable to offer much solace.

As the episode progresses, news reaches Versailles that a riot has broken out in Paris. The people are storming the Bastille in an effort to obtain weapons, and the situation is quickly spiraling out of control. Fearing for their safety, many of the courtiers flee Versailles, including Fersen and his sister Sophie.

Oscar, however, chooses to stay behind and tend to the wounded soldiers who have been sent to Versailles for treatment. She is aided in her efforts by Andre, who has decided to put his feelings aside and do what he can to help the cause. The two of them work tirelessly throughout the night, tending to the wounded and trying to keep the peace.

As morning breaks, Louis XVI arrives at Versailles, having fled Paris in the face of the uprising. He is accompanied by his loyal bodyguard Bernard, who informs Oscar of the situation in Paris. The people are demanding a meeting with the king, and many are calling for his head.

Oscar realizes that the situation is dire and that the only way to quell the unrest is for the king to make a public appearance and address the people directly. She convinces Louis to do just that, and the episode ends with the king making a speech in which he promises to hear the grievances of the people and work towards a solution.

"The Sun Sets, The Sun Rises" is a tense and emotional episode that highlights the growing unrest in France and the nobility's increasing detachment from the common people. Oscar, as always, remains steadfast in her duty to protect the monarchy, but also shows a deep compassion for the suffering of the people. Andre's inner turmoil adds an additional layer of complexity to the episode, as he struggles with the conflicted feelings that come with serving a corrupt government. Overall, this episode is a powerful continuation of the series' themes of love, duty, and political upheaval.
