Jim Rockford, a private investigator, is hired by his former girlfriend, Jennifer, to find out who is threatening her. While Jennifer insists that she doesn't know who could be after her, Jim soon discovers that her new boyfriend, a wealthy businessman named Walter Coughlin, has some dangerous enemies.
As Jim digs deeper into the case, he begins to suspect that Jennifer is hiding something from him. Meanwhile, he is also being pursued by two hired thugs who are determined to stop him from uncovering the truth.
With the help of his friend, police detective Dennis Becker, and his father, Rocky, Jim races against time to solve the case before Jennifer's life is put in danger. As the secrets and lies begin to unravel, Jim realizes that his former girlfriend may not be the person he thought she was.
The episode, titled "Say Goodbye to Jennifer", features the usual mix of action, suspense, and humor that fans have come to expect from the show. James Garner delivers another standout performance as the wisecracking detective, while the supporting cast, including Stuart Margolin as Jim's slippery friend Angel, is equally strong.
In addition to the main plotline, the episode also explores Jim's complicated relationship with Jennifer and his ongoing struggle to move on from their past.
Overall, "Say Goodbye to Jennifer" is a solid entry in the first season of The Rockford Files. With its engaging storyline, charismatic lead performance, and sharp writing, it exemplifies why the show was such a hit with audiences during its original run in the 1970s.
