Lucas and his son Mark are spending a quiet night at home when they hear gunshots outside. Curious, Lucas goes to investigate and finds a group of bandits attempting to rob the local bank. Without hesitating, Lucas takes action and singlehandedly foils the robbery, but not without suffering a gunshot wound in the process.
Back at home, Lucas is on bed rest while Mark tends to his father's injuries. However, their peaceful night is once again interrupted when they hear the sound of a gunshot outside. Mark investigates and finds that a neighboring family has been killed by bandits, leaving behind two orphaned children.
Lucas takes it upon himself to care for the children until he can find a suitable home for them. However, the bandits responsible for the murders are still on the loose, and Lucas knows that they won't stop until they've silenced any eyewitnesses.
Determined to protect the orphans and bring the criminals to justice, Lucas enlists the help of his friend and fellow lawman Micah, as well as a reformed bandit named Johnny Clover. But as they close in on the gang, they find themselves outnumbered and outgunned.
With the safety of the orphans and the town at stake, Lucas must rely on his wits and his rifle to outsmart the criminals and bring them to justice. Will he be able to keep the town safe and find a new home for the orphaned children, or will the bandits succeed in their deadly mission? Find out in this exciting episode of The Rifleman, "Quiet Night, Deadly Night."
