The Red Green Show is a Canadian comedy series that aired in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The show follows the adventures of Red Green, a handyman and outdoorsman who hosts a public-access television show from his lodge in the fictional town of Possum Lodge.
In season 1 episode 5, titled "Practical Joke Week," the Possum Lodge members embrace the spirit of April Fools' Day by pulling practical jokes on each other. Red Green introduces the episode by saying that he loves practical jokes, but he also knows that they can go too far. He encourages viewers to use their best judgment before playing a joke on someone.
The first joke of the episode is played on Red Green himself. He is in his workshop, working on a project, when Harold, his nephew, shows up with a box of chocolate-covered cherries. Harold tells Red that he won the box in a contest and offers to share them with him. Red eagerly takes a few cherries, but when he eats them, he discovers that they are filled with hot sauce. Harold laughs hysterically as Red tries to cool down his mouth.
Next, the Possum Lodge members try to pull a prank on Ranger Gord, the forest ranger who lives in a fire tower. They come up with a plan to fake a UFO sighting by attaching a bunch of helium balloons to a trash can lid and launching it near the tower. However, things don't go as planned when the wind changes direction and the UFO ends up getting stuck on the tower.
Another practical joke involves Winston Rothschild, the owner of the local specialty shop. The Possum Lodge members dress up in elaborate costumes and pretend to be American tourists who are lost and looking for directions. When they ask Winston for help, they speak in exaggerated Southern accents and use fake names such as Bubba and Cletus. Winston is so confused by their antics that he flees the store.
In another segment, Red Green shows viewers how to make a "portable shower." He takes a watering can, attaches a garden hose to it, and then uses a car battery and an inverter to power a shower head. He demonstrates how the shower can be used in the great outdoors, but also warns viewers to be careful when using electrical equipment around water.
The episode ends with Red Green and Harold trying to come up with one final practical joke to play on each other. Red shows up at Harold's house with a truckload of manure and dumps it in Harold's front yard. Harold retaliates by setting up a fake garage sale in Red's front yard and making Red wear a clown suit to sell the items. The two men continue to prank each other until they agree to call a truce and have a beer together.
"Practical Joke Week" is a lighthearted and fun episode that showcases the humor and camaraderie of the Possum Lodge members. The practical jokes are silly and harmless, but they also demonstrate the importance of friendship and good-natured humor. Fans of the show will enjoy this episode and its classic Red Green-style humor.
