The Real Ghostbusters Season 4 Episode 4, titled "The Collect Call of Cathulhu", takes the team on a Lovecraftian-inspired adventure. The episode begins with Peter Venkman receiving a strange phone call from a woman claiming that her building is haunted. When the Ghostbusters arrive at the designated location, they discover that the woman's building is a massive skyscraper. They begin their investigation by consulting the building's superintendent, a strange man who seems to know more than he's letting on.
Despite the fact that they can't find anything supernatural in the building, the Ghostbusters decide to set up shop in the basement. It doesn't take long for them to discover the source of the haunting - a strange, glowing artifact that looks like it was pulled straight out of an H.P. Lovecraft story. Ray recognizes it as an artifact of Cathulhu, a powerful and malevolent ancient entity that the Ghostbusters had never encountered before.
With little to go on, the team begins to research Cathulhu and his origins. They discover that the artifact they found is just one of many, all of which were made by a cult that worshipped Cathulhu. The cult was disbanded years ago, but its leaders had hidden the artifacts all over the city in an attempt to bring their master back to life. Thanks to a bit of clever deduction and some quick thinking, the Ghostbusters are able to figure out where the other artifacts are and retrieve them before the cult can use them to resurrect Cathulhu.
The episode culminates in a battle against a horde of supernatural monsters that the cult has summoned to protect their master. The Ghostbusters are able to defeat the monsters and destroy the artifacts, preventing Cathulhu from being resurrected. As the episode ends, the team reflects on the close call and contemplates the possibility of more ancient entities like Cathulhu out in the world, waiting to be awakened.
Overall, "The Collect Call of Cathulhu" is a spooky and suspenseful episode that plays with Lovecraftian themes in a fun and engaging way. It's a great example of the kind of imaginative storytelling that made The Real Ghostbusters such a beloved series.
